Is it possible to have breast augmentation surgery while under local anesthesia (and possibly twilight sedation)?
No way and you wouldn’t want it done like that anyway. Depending on your implant type and you natural breast size, the doctor typically goes in through the armpit or makes the incision under the breast. Would you want to make half awake or only sedated for that? You will still feel everything.
I’m a married mother of five children who were all over ten pounds at birth. I am considering a tummy tuck due to excess skin below my belly button. I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on this and also, from people who had this done, how did you handle the anesthesia. I had knee surgery once, but I think that was done under local anesthesia. Anywho, i am terrified of stories I’ve heard about people going into surgery. Is it really that bad?
I had a full tummy tuck almost 5 months ago. I would say, if you have the time, the money, and the help. Do it! I am so glad I did it! I went to Hawaii last month and wore a bikini the whole time! I was not affraid to take off my shirt!!!
The surgery…. I handle pain well (had my first son natural with no epidural and didn’t shed a tear) so I don’t know if it would be accurate for me to say that it wasn’t all that painful. The only reason though, that I say I would NEVER have a voluntary surgery again, is the anesthesia. I did not like it AT ALL. I went into the operating room, they had me lay on the table, put the mask on me, I breathed in a couple times, and I went to sleep. Waking up was the worst thing ever! I remember sleeping and hearing the nurse telling me to wake up and I couldn’t open my eyes! I was so tired, I couldn’t open my eyes, or talk, or anything. My fiance was there, but I didn’t even know. I remember not breathing, and thinking to myself that I am not breathing. Then all of a sudden I heard my fiance say “hunny breathe.” And I took a huge breathe, and that happened a few times. It was scary, but the nurses didn’t seem concerned about it. after I woke up enough to breathe, that is just about all I could do. My body was heavy. It took me a good 3-4 hours to be able to eat a couple bites of applesause and take some pain pills, then get dressed. THAT was a chore! haha. After that I went home. I slept the whole drive home, walked up the stairs by myself at home and laid down on the couch and slept the rest of the day. After the first day, everything went really smooth. I never had to much pain, it was more like I was just really sore…. like I did a million sit ups. But I was able to sit and stand on my own, walk around the house, and stuff like that. After about 4 days I was really up and about. I tagged along with my fiance to the grocery store on day 4. I had to walk slow and hold onto the cart for support, but otherwise was fine. after 2 weeks, I was picking up my one year old daughter (carefully) and after about a month I would say I was 100% back to my normal daily routine (I’m a stay at home mom). I wore my binder almost everyday until I went to Hawaii at 3 months post op. I haven’t worn it since then and I feel great! Good Luck! if you have any questions, feel free to email me!

I am going in for cosmetic surgery Tummy tuck but want to know what choices of sedation there are?whats safest
Im 5′7 190 lbs going in for tummy tuck, lipo of hips
I really dont know if I want general anesthesia I have NEVER had any surgery before..I think my surgery is suppose to be about 4 hours can you use local and a more short acting safer sedative other then general anesthesia? Thank you!
I have witnessed this operation. GA is a good idea. I cannot imagine having any other option. Usually, an injection to relax you will be given first and then you should remember nothing about it. One night in hospital should be enough but you will require fairly strong analgesia for 24 hours post-op. I would ask your surgeon for GA definitely unless there is some strong contraindication in which case you probably shouldn’t have the op anyway. Good luck.
