My mother is considering getting this done but she has some worrys. She 34 and has had glasses since she was a teenager. Her eye doctor said that she could qualify but she has chronic drys eyes to start, would this make it worse? I have heard some awful things about eye surgery and after reading this site www.lasikdisaster.com. I also found it ironic all of the surgeons who specialized in Lasik were wearing glasses. Any feedback much appreciated.
Thanks,
Shane
Lasik is designed for people who can not see to an acceptable standard without glasses. Most people I know who have had surgery have had some sort of inconvenience post surgery: dry eyes, no tears, halos around vision; however those with the most significant refractive errors didn’t care – the clarity of vision was worth it. Being able to see in the middle of the night, etc.
If your mother is set on the surgery, check to make sure that the surgeon is recommended by several optometrists, not just one or two. Make sure their techniques include “wavefront iris mapping” which will give a better opportunity for success, last but not least, ensure that after surgery your mother goes back for her check ups, but also back to the optometrist who’s advice she sought to begin with. The optometrist will be able to help manage the changes she will experience, with the surgeon.

I had Lasik surgery done in May 2009. I had amazing results until a few weeks ago, when my right eye became blurry. The nurse at Lasik MD said I have to have “PRK” done on my right eye………..my question is………….will it hurt because this is going to be the second time I’m having surgery on my right eye?
I mean, if you have a piercing on your ear and you let it heal and then re-pierce it, it hurts a lot more than the first time you pierced it because of the “scar tissue.” Is this the same idea for your eyes?
Will PRK hurt more now? I also have severe “astigmatism” in my right eye.
Please give me as much info as possible.
Thank you in advance
I had astigmatism before having my Lasik surgery
PRK hurts a lot more than LASIK because you end up with a bare spot on your cornea. The pain will be controlled with bandage contacts and medication. You need a second opinion on this. An eye that has gone from being “amazing” to “severe astigmatism” after having LASIK should not be operated on unless they know exactly why this change occurred. They are evidently concerned about the thickness of your cornea since they are recommending PRK. Your corneal topography would need to be very regular for you to consider another refractive procedure.

This up-to-date and comprehensive set of two CD-ROM discs provides a superb collection of official Federal government documents on the subject of laser eye surgery (LASIK). For many people, laser eye surgery can correct their vision so they no longer need glasses or contact lenses. Laser eye surgery reshapes the cornea, the clear front part of the eye. This changes its focusing power. There are di…
