Dr. Jay Calvert Shares Details on New Patent-Protected Investigational Breast Implants

Los Angeles-based plastic surgeon, Dr. Jay Calvert posted more information about the IDEAL breast implants on his blog. He discussed the frequently asked questions about this new product and discussed when it would be available to the public for a clinical trial.

Board certified Dr. Jay Calvert was chosen as one of the investigators of the new IDEAL breast implants. These implants are known to have the same result as that of silicone gel but are much safer. The clinical trial has begun accepting patients who are willing to undergo the procedure and commit to follow up check ups for the next 10 years.

More and more women are turning to cosmetic surgeries such as breast augmentation and rhinoplasty in order to enhance their looks. The increase in the demand for these types of operations have paved the way for new procedures and tools to be developed in order to ensure the safety of the patients. Among these new developments is the IDEAL breast implant.

“This [IDEAL breast implant] is the first improvement in the basic design of the saline-filled breast implant since it was introduced over 30 years ago,” explained Dr. Calvert when asked about the new product. The IDEAL breast implant is saline-filled and structurally lowered in order to fit better to the chest wall. It was also designed so that it doesn’t wrinkle and would feel and look natural.

The clinical trial for this new product is currently on going and patients are being selected to undergo the treatment. The trial program specifies that the patient must pay for the breast augmentation, however, if they are able to complete the 10-year clinical trial, then they will be able to receive some financial benefit. Dr. Calvert, MD, FACS, who is one of the surgeons performing this clinical trial, said that it is like an insurance policy; the company will put part of the patient’s payment in her trust fund, and after 10 years, the trust fund is expected to grow to about 10000 US Dollars. Dr. Calvert added that “women who entered the study will then have the comfort of knowing that there’s money for them at the end of the study, if they do all their follow ups and complete the study properly.” Even though Dr. Calvert is optimistic about this new breast augmentation technique, he still adds that, “if problems come up and we need to draw upon that money and stop the study, then there’s money there to do that.”

Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Calvert also performs other cosmetic surgeries including breast augmentation, post-bariatric surgery, face-lift and rhinoplasty among others. He is based in Los Angeles, California and sees new patients at his two offices in Beverly Hills and Newport Beach.

breast augmentation types of implants
a question about breast augmentation?

is there a type of implant that is best for filling in loose skin? like if you lost weight and want to replace the fat that used to make your breasts full, is there a specific method thats best for that?
not a huge amount of extra skin…just to fill a little more.

I don’t think they add implants to fill that skin… they just cut out the loose skin and stretch what’s left to look tight again.

Breast Augmentation Stories?

Ladies, i would like to hear your stories of your augmentations, do you love/hate them, how painful was it? Would you do it agian? What was your least fav thing of the surgery? Just any experiences. No dumb comments please!
Apparently the two that have already answered have a READING PROBLEM! I want experiences not DUMB COMMENTS!

My wife recently had her done in July. She is completely happy with them. Yes there was some pain involved but when you go under the muscle the way she did, the doctor said this would be more painful than on top of the muscle. This way give a better look to the implant and makes it look more natural. Not to mention it lowers your chances of getting capsular contracture. This is the hardening of the scar tissue which your body surrounds the implant with. The implant is a foreign object in your body. Going under the muscle reduces capsular contracture to around 1 to 2 % of all breast augmentations. Also don’t let the way they are inserted be a concern. Go inframamary (underneath). Axillary ( armpit ) is more apt to become infected during the incision’s healing. Around the areola, you will be more apt to become nipple numb, sometimes permanently. As far as the TUBA ( thru the belly button ) as you grow older where the skin was raised, you will be able to see the pathway they inserted them in. Underneath allows the surgeon to properly align and fit the implant with little or no problems or extra time involved.
She was very small 32 big a lil B now she is a 32 big c lil d. She absolutely loves them and so do I. I say if you have the money treat yourself to a little confidence booster.
