breast implant cancer risk
Breast implants increase risk of breast cancer?

Just wondering if getting breast implants increases a person’s risk of breast cancer? I’ve heard that somewhere before. Thanks.

There are no scientific studies indicating that breast implants cause cancer. If such studies existed, then the FDA would likely halt the manufacture, sale, and surgical implantation of synthetic breasts.

However, there is anecdotal evidence that breast implants may cause health problems over time. While the salt water that modern implants contain cannot harm recipients, the implant’s plastic encasement may deteriorate and release substances into the body.

Like everything else in life, there is certain level of risk. 20 years from now there will be so much new data on implants that everything believed true about them today could be proved false. For example, back in the 1950s cigarettes were a considered to be a healthy alternative to cigars. In the early 1900s cocaine was a medication to sooth cranky babies. The passage of time often reveals the truth about a product’s safety.
